- An empire-line style with a ruched waistband will create a high waistline under your bust, making your body look longer and slimmer, but steer clear if you've got a large chest.
- Look for dresses with an inner corset that cinches in at the smallest point on your waistline, flaring out into a gradual A-shape.
- Lace detailing on the neck or the side can detract from round tummies.
- A deep V-neck will create a flattering, vertical line.
NO
- Trumpet-style dresses will work against your body shape; they emphasise the area where you're widest and flare out at the legs and knees - just where you're slimmest.

Wedding Dresses For Pear Shape Body

- A strapless dress with a nipped-in waist and A-line skirt is your ideal style.
- Draw attention to your top half using spaghetti straps and halter necks. This will give the impression you're smaller all over and therefore that it's the skirt, not your hips, that's fuller.
NO
- Stay away from tiered, fishtail and sheath styles as they will make your hips look bigger.

TIPS:
1. Don't Try on Too Many
You will always have to try on a few duff dresses before finding one that fits, although trying on too many isn't a good idea either. Maria Yiannikaris, of wedding boutique Mirror Mirror (opens in a new window) advises, "Look for too long and at too many, and your 'perfect dress' moment may well pass. Three or four visits to different bridal boutiques should be enough to find one that makes you look and feel great. Women who make seven or eight appointments can confuse themselves."
2. Consider the Location
You can rule out a lot of dresses immediately by thinking of the venue. "An elaborate, meringue-type affair isn't going to look right if you're getting married on a beach," says Yiannikaris. "Likewise, a short, 60s-style dress will seem under-dramatic for a 50-foot cathedral aisle."
3. Skin Tone
A wedding dress needs to work with your skin tone. "As a rule, the paler your complexion, the warmer you should go colour-wise," says stylist Emer Dewar. "English roses will suit champagnes, creams and golds, while very dark skin can take pure white."
Do: avoid the "help, I looked washed out in my white dress, I'd better get a fake tan" scenario - orange and white is better for lifeboats than brides .
Don't: ignore more off-beat tones, like pale mocha, grey, silvery blue, pale pink and faded peach. All can be incredibly subtle and flattering, and are worth trying on.
